A day in the San Francisco Bay Area

Working on our Chapel Hill projects this week while I spend time in the San Francisco Bay area is effortless, thanks to the internet, email, zoom, and phone. It’s 5:30am on the West Coast (8:30am on the East Coast), and I have already texted one client about a tile sample delivery, responded to a past client about a reference request, reviewed job progress with our project manager, and checked in with our field personnel about an office delivery for which I received email notification. Once I’m done writing this blog, I’ll be selecting an array of cabinet pull options for an ongoing remodel-addition.

Being in Northern California at the start of the new Fall season is energizing and refreshing. Any trip I take, whether to California or New York, the Hudson River Valley or Japan, Scandinavia or Europe in general, sparks my creativity and almost always provides me with out-of-the-box ideas. These fresh concepts and details help me respond to the needs of our clients, who have refined and sophisticated taste.

I see so much beauty here in California, and it’s a delight to bring it to our Chapel Hill, Durham and Hillsborough clients. The Bay Area has long been a source of inspiration for me, and the big city is home to more suppliers than in the Research Triangle Park. For bathrooms and for kitchen backsplashes, I love to explore ceramic tile options not available in North Carolina, and later today I’ll visit one of my favorites, Artistic Tile in San Francisco, to check out their new inventory. I’m starting on the design for our custom project home and am excited to see what’s new and also harmonizes with our clients’ taste.
But first, breakfast! Since I’ve had such a “busy” and productive morning (and it’s still early!), I’ll take the long way to San Francisco and stop at Rockridge Market Hall in Oakland. Reminiscent of the old-time food halls in Europe, this large and wonderful space is filled with food treats from throughout the world. I love visiting here and am happy to go out of my way to grab a few goodies. When I can’t travel abroad, I bring abroad to me!

Happy Autumn!
